Centrally located in the Napa Valley, the town of Yountville is home to approximately 3,000 residents. Yountville is considered by many to be the culinary center of the Napa Valley. Although fine dining there can be traced back to 1977, it was Thomas Keller’s legendary French Laundry that put Yountville on the map. It has consistently been rated as one of the best restaurants in the world for both its cuisine and ambiance. The town has since grown into culinary mecca, surrounded by luxurious wine country estates and many of the most prestigious vineyards in the Napa Valley. Named after George Yount, who is considered responsible for establishing the first vineyard in the Napa Valley, the town itself is 1.5 square miles in size. In 1999, the Yountville area was approved as an American Viticultural Area (AVA), recognizing it as a unique region for growing premium wine grapes. It is warmer than the Carneros AVA to its south, yet cooler than the AVAs to its north and west. The Yountville AVA, which centers around the town of Yountville, includes more than 4,000 acres of planted vineyards today.
